Scarlett Wild is especially pleased her family made a last-minute effort to get her entry in for our Wellington Wind Walk 2008 design competition.
Scarlett’s drawing beat 97 other entries to become the symbol of the first Wellington Wind Walk. You can see it at the top of this page, and it’ll be available on printed t-shirts.
“She only finished it the night before we went on holiday, and we were on an early flight,” said Scarlett’s mother, Jennifer Looman. “I wasn’t sure we could do it, but she’d worked so hard on it. I managed to persuade the taxi driver to go out of his way to put it in the Brooklyn School letterbox.”
The competition was open to students from several Wellington primary schools. Competition organiser Nigel Case said Scarlett’s entry was simple and effective, and her decision to fill the background lent it a strong design element. Scarlett is thrilled with her win, but says: “It’s going to be a bit weird to see everyone wearing my drawing.”
